About the Silver Kangaroo Series
The silver Kangaroo coin was first released in 2016, and is currently in its fourth year of production. The Perth Mint decided to release the silver Kangaroo series in response to the huge popularity of the gold Kangaroo coin, which was initially released in 1986. The coin was also released in platinum in 2017. Silver Kangaroo coins are currently available in 1 Ounce size only, and the design remains the same each year.
The front of each coin features Queen Elizabeth II, while the reverse features an image of a Red Kangaroo hopping. Each coin has a face value of $1 AUD. The Kangaroo is the official animal of Australia and is known for its strength and speed. These majestic animals can run in excess of 35 mph due to the strength of their legs. Both the gold and platinum Kangaroo coin design is updated annually, however the silver Kangaroo coin's design remains the same each year. These coins have become popular with collectors worldwide.
Other Coins issued by the Perth Mint
The Perth Mint is famous for issuing a range of coins. In addition to the silver Kangaroo, the Mint also release the silver Kookaburra and the silver Koala coin, which was first released in 2006. These silver coins are available in a range of sizes, from 1/2 Ounce up to 1 Kilogram sizes, although the most popular size coins are the 1 Ounce coins. Unlike the Kangaroo series, the design of these coins is updated annually. The mint also release a platinum Platypus coin annually.
The most popular coin series available to numismatic collectors is the Perth Mint Lunar series, which features a design from the Chinese Lunar calendar annually. This series is currently available in both gold and silver.
