Design of the 1/10 Ounce Gold American Eagle Coin
Each American Eagle gold coin features an image of Lady Liberty walking on the front, with an olive branch in one hand and a torch in the other. The sun is rising in the distance behind her. The top of the coin says the word 'Liberty' and at the bottom is the coin's year of minting - 2020.
The reverse side of the coin featues an image of two bald eagles. The female sits in the nest, while the male brings some olive branches back to her. The Bald Eagle is the national bird of America. The top of the coin says 'United States of America', and to the right it says 'In God We Trust'. To the left are the Latin words, 'E Pluribus Unum'. The bottom of each coin says the coin's size of 1/10 ounces, and its face value. Each 1/10 Ounce gold Eagle has a legal tender value of $5 USD.
The American Eagle Series
The American Eagle series was first released by the United States Mint in 1986, and the coins have been in continuous circulation since then. Each year the US Mint releases the gold Eagle coin in 4 sizes - 1 Ounce, 1/2 Ounce, 1/4 Ounce and 1/10 Ounce. The mint also release the American Eagle coni in silver and in platinum. A palladium American Eagle was released for 2017, however these are not readily available to investors. The American Eagle series is the most famous series released by the US Mint. They also release a gold Buffalo coin, which is available in gold, in 1 Ounce. All American Eagle gold coins contain 999 fine gold bullion, making them 22 karat gold coins.
The St. Gauden coin was also released by the US Mint, however this is no longer in circulation. This coin was the inspiration for the gold Buffalo coin, which features a similar design on the front of the coin.
