History of the American Buffalo Coin
Designed by James Earle Fraser, the American Buffalo gold coin was the first 24 karat (99.99 fine) gold bullion coin to be issued by the United States Mint in 2006. Coin's design was modeled after the American Indian Head nickel or Buffalo nickel, which was in circulation in the United States from 1913 until 1938.
The front of the coin features the profile of an Indian Chief, which is a composite of three famous Indian Chiefs from three separate tribes.
The reverse of the coin features the image of a Buffalo grazing. The Buffalo is believed to be 'Black Diamond', a famous American Bison that lived in the Central Park Zoo in New York City in the 1910s.
About the Buffalo Gold Coin
The American Buffalo coin is only available from the United States Mint in gold bullion. Many private mints issue a silver Buffalo round, however this is not recognised by the US government, and therefore has no legal tender value (although its silver content value far outweighs any government face value). The American Buffalo gold bullion coin is available in 1 Ounce size. The American Buffalo is currently only available from the US Mint in gold bullion.
This coin is the purest gold bullion coin currently available from the United States Mint, with a purity of 9999, or 24 karat gold bullion. Coins are sold in tubes of 20 x 1 Ounce gold Buffalo coins. Each coin tube is issued by the United States Mint. All coins are current issue, and guaranteed to be in BU condition.
