The Design of the Silver 1 Oz Kookaburra Coin
The silver Kookaburra coin has a new design each year, making these coins very popular with investors who like to collect the coin annually. 2020 marks the 30th year that the Kookaburra coin has been in circulation, and this coin is designed to celebrate the anniversary of its release in 1990.
The front of each coin features an image of a Kookaburra standing on a roof singing, while facing left. The bottom of the coin reads '30th anniversary'. The reverese side of each coin features a smaller image of Queen Elizabeth II at the top, with a second image of a Kookaburra below. The second Kookaburra is standing on a tree stump while facing to the right. Each coin cointains 9999 fine investment grade silver bullion, making them one of the purest silver coins you can buy. Each coin has a face value of $1 AUD.
About the Perth Mint
The Perth Mint was originally founded in 1899 as a way for the territory of Australia to be able to refine the large amounts of gold that were being mined locally. Prior to its foundation, gold was shipped back to London to be refined at the Royal Mint. The Perth Mint began released bullion coins for investors in 1986, with the mint's first release of the Australian Nugget gold coin. Four years later the silver Kookaburra coin was released, in 1990. The Mint has released a range of bullion coins, all of which have been very popular with investors. These include the Kangaroo series, the Kookaburra coins, the Koala coin, the Platinum Platypus, the Palladium Emu and the Lunar Series.
The Perth Mint is renowned for refining some of the highest quality gold and silver available on the market. The silver Kookaburra coin is available in a range of sizes. These include 1/2 Ounce, 1 Ounce, 2 Ounce, 5 Ounce, 10 Ounce and 1 Kilogram sizes. However, the most popular coins are the 1 ounce, 10 Ounce and 1 Kilogram sizes. The Perth Mint is one of the only mints worldwide (other than the Mexican Mint) to issue silver coins in a wide range of sizes, including larger sized silver coins. These coins do have some tax advantages for clients depending on their location, and this also makes them a popular option for investors.
