Design of the 2020 1/10 Oz Gold Kangaroo
The gold Kangaroo coin series is unique, in that the design of the Kangarooo on the coin is updated annually. These coins are popular with both investors and collectors. The coin features an image of Queen Elizabeth II on the front, with the words 'Elizabeth II' and 'Australia' written around the top. The coin's face value of $15 AUD is inscribed at the bottom of the coin.
The reverse side of the coin features an image of two Kangaroos, a mother and baby, standing, with some desert flowers growing around them. The words 'Australian Kangaroo' are inscribed at the top. The coin's year of minting, size, purity and metal type are located at the bottom. All 1/10 Oz gold Kangaroo coins are 9999 fine, which means that they are 24 karat gold.
The year 2020 is the first year that the Perth Mint has offered the 1/10 oz Kangaroo gold coin with a face value of $15 AUD. Previous coins had a face value of $10 AUD.
About the Perth Mint Kangaroo Coin Series
The Perth Mint Kangaroo coin series was first launched in the mid 1980s as a gold Australian Nugget, celebrating the country's rich history of gold mining and metal reserves. However, in 1989 the country updated the coin's image to feature a Kangaroo. The Kangaroo coin was hugely popular. The Perth Mint released the Kangaroo coin in a range of sizes, from 1/10 ounce up to 1 kilogram gold coins. The Perth Mint launched the Kangaroo in silver in 2016 and in platinum in 2017. The Kangaroo coin series is the most popular series offered by the Perth Mint.
